Michael J. Weiss
He wrote the book on lifestyle segmentation--actually three of them: The Clustering of America, Latitudes & Attitudes and The Clustered World. Michael J. Weiss is an internationally known market researcher, award-winning journalist and lecturer. As president of WEISS MICROMARKETING GROUP, he directs the lifestyle-based marketing projects for all company clients.
An expert on American demographics and consumer trends, Michael has served as a marketing consultant to numerous clients, including Kimberly-Clark, Castrol, Kraft Foods, Nissan, Pennsylvania House of Representatives , ABC Television, Porter Novelli, PricewaterhouseCoopers, USA Today and Control Data Corporation. He's helped create and document a number of lifestyle-based segmentation systems, including PRIZM NE from Claritas and BehaviorGraphics from Simmons Market Research Bureau. A licensed reseller of Claritas geodemographic software, he's been using the PRIZM cluster system to analyze consumer behavior since 1983.
In his role as a journalist, Michael continues to serve as a contributing editor at American Demographics, The Washingtonian and Ladies' Home Journal. Over the past 20 years, he's written articles for numerous national publications, including The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post, Metropolitan Home and People. As a thought leader on lifestyles and consumer behavior, he's appeared on hundreds of TV and radio shows--from "Oprah" to "All Things Considered." A graduate of Columbia University, where he received a master's degree in journalism, Michael is the recipient of several business media awards, including the 1999 Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism. He lives with his wife and two children outside Washington, D.C., in North Potomac, Maryland.
Linda G. Brown is a nationally-known marketing expert, specializing in lifestyle-based profiling of consumers, executing direct marketing strategies and analyzing database and syndicated survey data. As Director of Strategy for WEISS MICROMARKETING GROUP, she oversees consumer and response analysis, database management and developing return-on-investment models. A popular speaker at national conferences, she has conducted seminars for organizations ranging from VH-1, Claritas and Arbitron, as well as the Radio Association of Broadcasters and the Rocky Mountain Direct Marketing Association. She has also contributed articles on marketing to the trade magazines Radio Ink and Sales & Marketing Management Magazine.
A 1988 magna cum laude graduate of Hillsdale College, with a double major in biology and art, Linda received a master's degree in anatomy and neurobiology from Colorado State University in 1991. After publishing medical illustrations in surgical journals, she took a career turn and joined the nation-wide marketing firm, Eagle Marketing Services. For nearly a decade, she served as research director and vice president in charge of research, overseeing a ten-fold rise in business growth and developing an expertise in database management, mapping, consumer and response analyses and IT productivity. Her client list has included Clear Channel Media, Hearst-Argyle, CBS, Telluride Ski Resort, Qwest Communications, Castrol, Sweet Factory, ACO Hardware, ArtVan Furniture, Les Stanford Chevrolet, Strategic Media Research, Galyan's, and Boatman's Bank. Besides leading her own consulting firm, Sibylic Consulting , she joined Weiss Micromarketing Group in 2002, and currently lives with her husband and two children in Rockford, Michigan, outside of Grand Rapids.
Jim Mole is a veteran art director who has led direct-mail efforts for countless clients, including McGraw-Hill Book Clubs, Tony Robbins, Sara Lee Catalog Division, the U.S. Mint, U.S. Olympic Shooting Team and AT&T Solutions. A graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, he began his commercial design career at the Gimbel's department store chain and later worked in retail advertising for Hecht's Department Stores and T.H. Mandy.
In 1988, Jim started Jim Mole Productions, which focused on design and marketing through direct mail advertising. In 1998, he expanded his portfolio to include web design and development. He currently directs TEAMmedia, which creates offline and web-based design, development, and marketing, and teaches advanced web design at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. He joined WEISS MICROMARKETING GROUP as Creative Director in 2002.
For the past 23 years, Christine Bruns has worked with some of the world's leading consulting firms and corporations, focusing on the development and deployment of key marketing and communications strategies. As a specialist in strategic communications for McKinsey and Company, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and AT&T Solutions, among others, she has been at the forefront of major advances in marketing and communications that have helped companies significantly shorten lead times, lower production costs, add creativity in design and reach targeted audiences through strategic Web offerings.
As a writer and editor, Christine established a desktop publishing marketing department within the Washington D.C. office of Andersen Consulting in 1985, creating the content and design of marketing brochures, audiovisual presentations, and customized client presentations. While with McKinsey and Company in 1990, she converted a hardware company's weekly color advertising circulars to electronic publishing. As marketing communications manager with AT&T Solutions in 1994, she created a distinctive identity program and Internet site for a major new AT&T e-commerce service offering. In her most recent position as a senior manager with Ernst & Young and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Christine directed programs to increase the impact of Web-based seminars for both internal and external audiences.In addition to her corporate work, she has edited three books on lifestyle-based target marketing and has written qualifications brochures for a telecommunications company and an organization development consulting firm. A graduate of Georgetown University with a cum laude degree in English, Christine joined the WEISS MICROMARKETING GROUP as Communications Director in 2003, and she lives with her husband in suburban Atlanta.
